When To See a Physician

You should call a doctor:

  • If you see blood in the vomit or stool

  • If you have a high fever (101° F),

  • If you are unable to keep fluids down

  • If symptoms last longer than a day

Parents of pediatric patients with fever and vomiting should contact their physician. Severity of symptoms varies with age and health. Elderly people and young infants with the same symptoms as healthy young adults can actually be much sicker.
