Is This Flu or Pneumonia

Flu is a serious illness, especially in seniors or those with compromised immune systems from diabetes or kidney disease. Of the 100,000 Americans hospitalized by the flu each year, 20,000 die. Prevention is preferable to treatment, since antibiotics can't help fight the flu.

Don't believe the old wives tale that getting a flu shot will cause you to have the flu. Vaccine is made from killed viruses and therefore, cannot transmit or cause the flu. While the vaccine is not 100% effective, if you do get the flu, you won't be as sick as you would be without the vaccine and you will lessen the chance of complications.
