Develop a Fire Escape Plan and Practice it

If a fire breaks out, call 911 and begin evacuating the house. There should be two ways out of every room in your house. Practice escaping from fire by staying as close to the floor as possible while reaching these exits. Air near the floor may be the safest to breathe. Before opening a closed door, feel it for heat - if it is hot, use a different exit. Decide where you will meet others living in the house in the event of a fire. It should be away from the house and well-lit. Never go back into a burning structure for any reason.

Practice your escape plan regularly - even if you live alone.
