Preventing Falls in the Bathroom

Bathtubs or showers should have non-slip surfaces, mats or abrasive tape strips on the floor. Grab bars are simple to install and a great investment in safety. Don't count on grabbing the shower curtain or towel bar in case of a slip. Chances are, neither is strong enough to keep you from falling.

Keep a non-slip bath mat beside the tub or shower. Bathroom floors are usually slippery when wet. Avoid taking hot baths, which may cause dizziness. Make it a habit to take your time getting into and out of the tub or shower.

It's always a good idea to take a cordless phone in the bathroom, especially at bath time.
