Get the Right Dose

Taking or giving the correct dose of a medication seems like common sense. Just read the label, right? But, sometimes it’s not so easy. For example, you may need to break a tablet in half or measure the correct dose of a liquid medication, especially those made for children. Be sure to read the correct dose on the label and use the appropriate cutting or measuring device to ensure the correct dose.

Also, be careful with such medications as cold and cough remedies, which may have several active ingredients. For example, cough and cold medications may also contain acetaminophen or pseudoephedrine. If the dose of these ingredients is added to the dose given separately with Tylenol or a cold tablet, you can quickly double the recommended or prescribed dose.
