Store Products in Original Containers

Household products, such as cleansers and medications and both over-the-counter and prescription medications, are packaged with labels that are required for safety. Keeping any potentially hazardous substance in its original container is essential for several reasons.

  • You will always know what is in the container.

  • The original label will indicate what is contained in the product.

  • Children are less likely to mistake a potentially hazardous substance with something that is safe to eat or drink if the product is kept in its original container and is kept out of reach of children.

  • If a substance is accidentally ingested or comes into contact with skin or eyes, the label should have instructions on the appropriate steps for first aid and when to obtain emergency care.
