Your Doctor Can Recommend an Exercise Program

Have a checkup and consult your doctor about the kind of exercises you should consider. Depending on your weight, present level of activity, and physical condition, your doctor may recommend that you start with non-weightbearing activities that put less stress on your joints. If your feet or joints hurt when you stand, consider stretching, chair exercises, water workouts, and limited weight training.

Weightbearing activities include walking, dancing, bowling and golfing. In other words, exercises that involve lifting or pushing your own body weight. Stretching, strength and balance exercises may help improve your stability and prevent falls.
