Good Habits Extend Safe Driving Abilities

  • Don't drive at night, during rush hours or in bad weather
  • Limit drives to short trips
  • Plan ahead and know the conditions of routes you plan to take (avoid road construction areas, if possible)
  • Remove dark tinting from windows or windshields
  • Have hearing and vision checked regularly
  • Make sure medications don't interfere with alertness, reaction time or ability to drive
  • Exercise regularly for strength and flexibility
  • Consider taking a safe driving course every few years. Most insurance companies offer a discount for completing such courses. AARP's "Alive 55/Mature Driving" course is an excellent refresher.
